Imagine a generation of Cameroonian children who graduate from primary school not only with academic knowledge, but with the entrepreneurial mindset, practical business skills, and financial literacy to create their own opportunities. This vision is no longer just a dream; it’s becoming reality. The Gateway Entrepreneurship Project (GEP), a transformative ten-year initiative by the Cameroon Association of Business and Economy Promoters (CABEP), is actively training teachers and transforming entrepreneurship education across Cameroon.

WHAT IS THE GATEWAY ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROJECT?

The Gateway Entrepreneurship Project is a comprehensive entrepreneurship education program designed to embed entrepreneurial thinking, practical business skills, leadership, innovation, and financial literacy into the basic education system in Cameroon. By introducing age-appropriate entrepreneurial concepts from nursery through upper primary (ages 3-12), GEP cultivates a new generation of innovative, resourceful, and economically empowered citizens.

The program is built on a simple but powerful belief: Every child is a natural entrepreneur. GEP simply gives them the gateway to unlock that potential.

WHY CAMEROON NEEDS ENTREPRENEURIAL CHILDREN

Many children complete primary education without ever developing entrepreneurial thinking, financial literacy, creativity, or problem-solving skills. This gap leaves them unprepared for the economic challenges and opportunities of the modern world.

GEP addresses this critical need by:

Supporting Vision 2035: Building an emerging economy driven by youth entrepreneurship and innovation.

Driving Economic Recovery: Strengthening communities with the knowledge and confidence to create solutions, generate income, and build self-reliance.

Building Financial Literacy: Equipping children with money management skills and an early understanding of economic principles.

THE GEP CURRICULUM: FOUR PROGRESSIVE LEARNING LEVELS

GEP uses a structured, age-appropriate curriculum organized into four progressive learning levels:

FOUNDATION: Little Helpers & Sharers (Ages 3-4)
Focus: Sharing, caring, and helping as core values of community and cooperation.
This foundational level introduces young learners to basic concepts of working together and community values.

LEVEL I: Little Business Stars (Ages 5-6)
Focus: Basic concepts of goods, services, buying, selling, and simple entrepreneurial thinking.
Children begin to understand the fundamentals of business and commerce in age-appropriate ways.

LEVEL II: Young Traders (Ages 7-8)
Focus: Markets, pricing, profit, and basic financial literacy through Cameroon-based case studies.
Pupils develop practical understanding of how businesses operate and make financial decisions.

LEVEL III: Future Founders (Ages 9-10)
Focus: Business planning, innovation, leadership, and product creation in the Cameroonian context.
Older pupils develop more sophisticated entrepreneurial skills and begin planning their own ventures.

Each level includes a comprehensive 34-week curriculum, teacher’s guide, practical activities, market simulations, bilingual (EN/FR) content, and Cameroon-focused material.

HOW GEP WORKS: A THREE-PART APPROACH

PART 1: TEACHER CAPACITY BUILDING

GEP recognizes that quality teachers are essential to success. The program includes:

Master Trainers: Experts who train regional master trainers in GEP methodology.

School Trainers: Master trainers who train teachers in individual schools.

Classroom Coaching: Ongoing support and mentoring for teachers implementing the curriculum.

This cascading training model ensures consistent, high-quality delivery across participating schools.

PART 2: PRACTICAL LEARNING

Children don’t just read about business; they experience it through:

Classroom Activities: Interactive lessons that bring entrepreneurial concepts to life.

Business Simulations: Role-playing and scenario-based learning.

Team Projects: Collaborative problem-solving activities.

Financial Literacy Games: Fun, engaging approaches to teaching money management.

Product Creation: Children design, create, and sell real products.

Problem Solving: Developing critical thinking and innovation skills.

PART 3: EXCITING EVENTS

Learning extends beyond the classroom through:

Mini Market Fairs (Terms 1 & 2): Children create, price, market, and sell products within their schools. These fairs build confidence and practical business skills.

Grand Market Day (Annual Event): An inter-school competition celebrating innovation, business skills, and entrepreneurial spirit across participating schools.

TRAINING IS HAPPENING NOW!

The real transformation is unfolding as we speak. Over the past weeks, CABEP has been conducting comprehensive training sessions for primary school teachers who will be the driving force behind GEP implementation in their schools. These dedicated educators are learning how to transform entrepreneurship concepts into engaging, practical lessons that will inspire and empower their pupils.

WHAT THE TRAINING COVERS

Our GEP teacher training program equips educators with:

The training program follows a cascading model:

Master Trainers (Expert level) → School Trainers (School-level implementation) → Classroom Coaches (Ongoing support)

This structure ensures that training quality is maintained and teachers receive continuous support throughout the school year.

HOW SCHOOLS CAN JOIN GEP

STEP 1: APPLYSchools apply officially to join the Gateway Entrepreneurship Project.

STEP 2: SUBSCRIBE
Once approved, the school pays a subscription fee of 100,000 XAF.

STEP 3: TRAIN TEACHERS
Schools send a minimum of two teachers for GEP methodology training (50,000 XAF per teacher; 20% of standard training cost, with CABEP subsidizing 80%).

STEP 4: IMPLEMENT
Schools enroll at least 100 pupils (25+ per level) with GEP textbooks and deliver the full curriculum.

STEP 5: PARTICIPATE
Schools host two Mini Market Fairs each year and join the annual Grand Market Day celebration.
